Rick believes, "you are not just the age you are, you are all the ages you have ever been".
A native of Greenville S.C. Rick started early, becoming a professional musician at the age of 13, supporting himself all through his high school years. After high school with his trumpet in hand, he financed his BS degree in Mathematics from Clemson University. After graduating from Clemson he pursued an MBA degree from the University of South Carolina while working full time and raising a family.
After college, Rick accepted a position as a Production Scheduler in General Electric's Large Gas Turbine Division in Greenville, S.C. Rick again distinguished himself in his first year by his estimating accuracy and winning another award for cost reduction.
Rick first got into the insurance industry when he accepted a position with Connecticut General now, CIGNA Corporation in individual life sales. He left C.G. and quickly moved into management with Golden Rule Insurance Company, now a part of United Healthcare, where for many years he worked with independent agents and agencies, assisting them in the marketing of individual and group insurance products such as medical, life, LTD, STD, dental and 401K plans to corporate clients. Rick's office walls are covered with only a few of his awards; five times President Council, five times Executive Council, four time $50 Million Award's Club and a 2004 member of the "Million Dollar Round Table", to mention a few. He has also has been a "Guest Lecturer" at St. Louis University on the Affordable Care Act, a consultant for Tillinghast Consulting, and he assisted with the drafting of Missouri State House Bill 818, which establishes the Missouri Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and changes the laws regarding the Missouri Health Insurance Pool and health care insurance. He is also an Associate Producer for two documentary films.
Rick contributes his success to first having a clear understanding of the clients business. He believes that "one can not make recommendations for the business until one understands the business". Once an understanding of the business has been obtained only then can his knowledge, experience and expertise along with the client's knowledge, experience and expertise be utilized effectively to accomplish the client's objectives. His overriding principal is taken from the Hippocratic Oath; "first do no harm".
